Our Gutter Guard Types

When it comes to guarding your gutters and downspouts from creatures and mother nature alike, there are six different types of guards that we provide and install:

Micro-Mesh Guards:

These guards, like their cousins the “mesh” guards, with the biggest difference being that the holes in the mesh are much smaller, which ensures virtually no debris pass through the holes and into your gutters and downspouts. This type of guard is often times considered “the best” type, due to how well it does its job of preventing unwanted materials into your gutters and spouts. The pros to this guard type is that is the most efficient type, it is easy to remove the debris and clean around them, and allows for the most optimal water flow into your down spouts. The only con would be that it is a premier product and often times the most expensive guard type.

Mesh Guards:

These are just like the micro mesh, but with larger holes. With larger holes allows for very small debris to get into them, but still will cut down the amount of time you spend cleaning your gutters each and every year. Additionally, with the larger holes the are considered the most durable type of gutter guards. The pros definitely still outweigh the cons with this type of

guard, and will significantly cut down the amount of time you’re spending on your roof each and every year!

Screen Gutter Guards:

Think of the screen you have on your existing home windows, kind of like that! Prevents large debris, leaves and tiny critters from getting into your downspouts, but it isn’t perfect. This type has larger holes that allows for water flow but keeps the larger debris out. These are middle of

the road when it comes to pricing and does its job exceptionally well. The only con is that they will still need to be removed and cleaned once per year.

Foam Guards:

Foam guards could very well be the right solution for you and your roof! This material is on the less expensive side, but still does a great job of protecting your gutters from debris and allows water to still flow through. The only con would be that you still have to get up on your roof and replace them ever so often. Additionally, large debris will sometimes collect on the top of the

foam, if debris is left there it could potentially lead to damage of the foam itself.

Brush Guards:

The way it sounds, and what your picturing in your head, is more than likely exactly what it looks like! They are large bristle brushes that sit inside your gutter that doesn’t allow for large leaves and debris to pass into your spout and cause backup and overflow. The best thing about these gutter guards is that it does their job, you won’t be worrying about leaves and other things mother nature throws your way ending up in your downspouts causing backup and overflow. But these bristles still need to be cleaned out, and sometimes the smaller debris get pretty wedged in there resulting in a not-so-fun cleaning experience.

Reverse Curve/Surface Tension Guards:

Again, the way it sounds is exactly what it is! These curved guards will allow for water to freely flow down your roof, through the curved guards, and into your gutters and eventually your downspout. All the while allowing for water to pass through it, it does stop and block debris from making its way into your gutters. The biggest con is that it isn’t exactly the “prettiest”

gutter guard type. The curved guards are typically visible from the ground. While we don’t necessarily consider them to be an “eyesore” some of our past customers have felt that way.

We’re often asked, is it worth it? Is new gutter guard installation worth it?

Well, first off, if you typically hire a professional gutter cleaning service, right there alone will probably pay for itself 10x over the course of a lifetime. If you are one of those individuals who brave the roof, and prefer to clean them out yourself, no longer will you be doing it 5+ times in the fall, with mesh or metal screen guards, it will significantly cut down on the number of times you have to clean them.

The guards will serve as a way to prevent leaves and other debris from getting into your waterspouts, all the while allowing for rain and snow runoff to flow freely through. Be sure to ask our representatives about the different types of warranties. Ranging from single replacement warranties to a lifetime warranty!

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Gutter Guard Systems

What is a gutter guard?

Gutter systems are a protective product that helps rid your gutters and downspouts of unwanted debris like sicks, leaves, and pesky critters. There are typically six different styles of guards and hundreds of brands. Virtually all of which we offer and would love to help you with your next project!

How much does it cost to install gutter guards?

When working with STL Gutter Guards, you can expect to spend anywhere from $750 to $2,000 depending on quite a few different factors. For example, the larger the roofline, the higher the price you could come to expect. Additionally, there a quite a few different types of guards to choose from. Micro Mesh guards would be more on your high end of product, and screen gutter guards would be more so on your lower end of the pricing spectrum. But to be quite frank, that is why we offer free no-obligation consultations to ensure that our clients know exactly what the financial obligation looks like before we even begin work! If you’re in St. Louis, Missouri, and surrounding areas and your looking to talk with someone about your next gutter protection system, give our team a call today and schedule your free estimate!

How long do gutter guards last?

Well, it is a loaded question as the type of guard you decide to go with varies the lifespan of the product. For example, your typical mesh guard is very durable and should last you and your home upwards of 25+ years! The other factor depends on weather and general wear and tear as to how long your guards will and should last. A general rule of thumb when it comes to estimating the lifespan of your guards would be 10-25+ years of protecting your gutters and downspouts from clogging!

Are leaf guards worth the investment?

Well, it really is a matter of weighing the upfront expense with the long term gain. Even though it is what we do, we are always going to shoot our potential clients straight, and we will say that guards aren’t for everyone! It really depends on how much time you’re looking to save and how much of a hassle you deem climbing up on your roof to clean your gutters and down spouts it is to you! If you’re looking to protect your home, and cut down on general gutter maintenance, then you might be a perfect fit for our gutter guard installations! If that sounds like you, please don’t hesitate to give our network of service providers a call today and we would love to provide you with a free no-obligation consultation today!

Can I buy gutter guards myself and install them on my own?

Of course! We would love for the opportunity to earn your business and do the install for you, but we aren’t going to sit here and lie to you stating that you have to have them professionally installed! If you have general handyman skills, and know your way around a roof, then you should be able to install the guards without a problem! There are tons of videos on the web that will help you out from start to finish!

Do I need to clean my gutters if I have gutter guards?

For our clients across Missouri, it is a common misconception that once you have guards installed you never have to clean your gutters again. That is a lie that we often hear competitors tell homeowners. Even the best gutter guard system will require some cleaning and general maintenance. But we will say, the better the system the less frequently you will have to clean your gutters. Over time, debris will still build up and should be hosed our cleaned out. But you will find yourself not doing it nearly as often as you previously had! Call us today to get your free no obligation estimate!
